Louisville Bats Notes: August 7

August 7, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Bats, or "Mashers", come home for a six-game homestand after going 4-3 on the road trip against division rivals Toledo and Columbus. Tonight, right-hander Jose Lopez takes the mound, looking to repeat his excellent start on July 31 when he tossed 7.0 shutout innings. The upcoming 6 games for Louisville will mark their final home games in 2018 against non-divisional opponents.

AGAINST PAWTUCKET: The Bats and PawSox meet for a three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field. The clubs met about two months ago at McCoy Stadium, with Pawtucket taking two of three games. Louisville won the series opener in that matchup by a 7-4 score, dropping the next games by 8-1 and 5-1 scores. In the series, Pawtucket outfielder Rusney Castillo recorded 8 hits, including a 5-hit game.

LAST SERIES: The Bats won the first 2 games of their last series at Columbus, before dropping their 2 most recent games. Louisville missed out on winning their sixth series in a row, going 5-0-1 in their last 6 series after the four-game split against the Clip Show. Louisville has currently won their last 2 home series, taking two of three against Buffalo and Rochester earlier in the month.

60 PLAYERS: Catcher Tim Federowicz was the 60th different player, Major League rehabbers included, to suit up in a Louisville uniform this season. In 2017, Louisville had 66 different players appear in a game. In 2016, 58 different players suited up for Louisville in a game.

WHAT DOG DAYS?: Since falling to a season-high 20 games below the .500 mark (35-55) on July 16, the Bats are 15-5 in their last 20 games despite the back-to-back losses. The 20-game run includes a 9-game winning streak from July 17-25, their longest win streak since the 2010 season.

WHAT A TRIP: In 7 games on the road trip, right fielder Gabriel Guerrero batted .310 (9-for-29) with one double, 5 home runs and 8 RBI. Guerrero and D.J. Peterson are tied for the team lead in home runs this season, each hitting 14 homers. The pair has a chance to become the first Louisville players to hit 15+ homers in the same season since 2013, Mike Hessman (25 HR) and Neftali Soto (15 HR).

ROBERT STEPHENSON: In 20 starts for Class AAA Louisville this season, Stephenson is 11-6 with a 2.87 ERA (36er/113.0ip), allowing 74 hits, 57 walks, and striking out 135.

-For July 23-29, Stephenson won IL Pitcher of the Week honors, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA (2er/14.0ip) in 2 starts, allowing just 3 hits, with 7 walks and 8 strikeouts.

-He's thrown 5 consecutive quality starts, the first Louisville pitcher to do that since Stephenson did it himself, from June 26 - July 23, 2016.

-Stephenson's 13 strikeouts in his most recent start at Columbus on 8/3 were a career-high for the right-hander.
