Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston RiverDogs left-handed pitcher Nik Turley has been promoted to the High-A Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League, the New York Yankees announced Tuesday. In a related move, right-handed pitcher Jose A. Ramirez has been activated from the 7-Day DL.

Turley improved his 2011 mark to 4-6 with 5.0 shutout innings of two-run ball in Monday's win over the Augusta GreenJackets. The stellar start ran the 6-6 Californian's scoreless innings streak to 22 as his ERA dipped to a South Atlantic League-best 2.51.

Over his last five starts, Turley allowed just one earned run on eighteen hits over 26.0 innings, while racking up 28 strikeouts against only two walks. For the season, Turley has fanned 82 batters in 82.1 innings, while issuing 21 free passes.

Ramirez had been sharp before heading to the disabled list on June 17. In seven starts since returning to the RiverDogs from Tampa, the 21-year old Dominican has compiled a 3-2 record to go along with a 4.15 ERA. Ramirez has exhibited the swing-and-miss stuff that makes him the 24th best prospect in the Yankees system (Baseball America), striking out 40 men over 39.0 innings.

The RiverDogs play three more games in Augusta, beginning tonight at 7:05 p.m., before heading to Rome for a three-game set with the Braves. Charleston returns home on Monday, July 4 to entertain the GreenJackets in a special 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
