Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power knocked off the Lexington Legends 4-3 Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Late inning heroics again from Cole White led the Power to two straight wins to open the home stand.

After a clean inning from Power starter Colton Cain, West Virginia wasted little time jumping ahead of the visiting Lexington Legends. After a leadoff single from Drew Maggi, Justin Howard lined a powerful shot the opposite way and over the left field wall for his fifth home run and moved the Power ahead 2-0.

The Legends battled back in the second inning on a run scoring single from Emilio King bringing the score to 2-1.

The Power would boost their lead again in the fourth inning after they were able to load the bases with a walk, a single, and a fielding mishap by the Legends pitcher. Kevin Mort lined a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Cole White and lifted the Power lead to 3-1.

The Legends kept battling as they were able to score a run in the fifth on a throwing error and again in the sixth on a solo home run from Tyler Burnett, tying the score at 3-3.

West Virginia starter Colton Cain pitched five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and striking out three.

The Power came across more heroism from Cole White in the bottom of the eighth inning. Justin Howard drew a two out walk before White drove a double into right centerfield scoring Howard and giving West Virginia a 4-3 advantage. That count would be the final as the Power moved to their second half record to 4-2.

Casey Sadler (3-4) picked up with win for West Virginia pitching three innings, allowing one run on one hit.

West Virginia and Lexington play the third of this four-game set on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Jameson Taillon will pitch for the Power against the Legends Luis Cruz with a 7:05 pm first pitch scheduled.

POWER RECORD: 39-35
