POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lexington in walk-off fashion on Monday night, winning 2-1 in ten innings. The Power took a 1-0 lead in the first and that held until the eighth. After a dugout clearing incident when the top of the eighth ended, four players were ejected. In the bottom of the tenth, White hit the first pitch of the inning from Jorge De Leon over the left field wall to win it for West Virginia. Kevin Decker earned the win for the Power.
WALK-OFF WINNER: Monday night's walk-off home run gave the Power their first final at bat win of the season.West Virginia was 0-5 in games decided in the final at bat, including two in extra innings and three doubleheader, seven inning-variety games. The extra inning win puts the Power at 2-3 during games with bonus baseball this season.
POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 66-60 and have the edge at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, winning 38 of 66 games. The Legends, however, hold a 32-28 mark at Appalachian Power Park.
QUALITY APPROVED: Colton Cain has seven quality starts this season, including six in a row. The southpaw has tossed six complete innings in each of his last six outings and has a combined earned run average of 2.50 during that stretch.
NO FREE PASSES: West Virginia's pitching staff continues to lead all of baseball with the fewest number of batters walked this year. Power pitchers have combined to walk 151 batters through 73games. The next closest team is Wilmington in the CarolinaLeague with 169.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Rogelio Noris hit 15 home runs for West Virginia during the 2010 season and has added six to that total so far this season. Stephen Chapman holds the single-season record with 24, which is also the most by any player during his respective stint with West Virginia. Noris ranks third all-time in Power history with 21 career home runs, trailing only Chapman and Kenny Holmberg (22 home runs over two seasons).
LONG STAY AT THE TOP: Matt Curry no longer has enough plate appearances to qualify for the SAL leader boards. Curry was promoted to Altoona on May 30, but had enough appearances to lead the league in hitting, slugging, and on-base percentage through the start of Monday's league activity.
FLASHBACK: West Virginia finished the first half of the 2011 regular season with a winning record. In 2009 during the first year as a Pirates affiliate, the Power were 27-43 at the All-Star break with a team batting average of .254 and held a staff earned run average 4.66. At the break during the 2010 season, the club was 31-39 with a .235 average and a 4.28 ERA. West Virginia hit .258 as a team during the first half of this season and had a staff ERA of 3.68.
POWER POINTS: Dan Grovatt went 0-2 in last Tuesday's SAL All-Star Game, while Brandon Cumpton tossed one scoreless inning... Former Charleston Charlie and Pittsburgh Pirate Kent Tekulve will appear at Appalachian Power Park on July 1... Jairo Marquez was promoted to Bradenton earlier today and LHP Porfirio Lopez was transferred back to the Power roster.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh had Monday off and opens a series in Toronto tonight... Indianapolis lost 4-1 at home to Pawtucket... Altoona fell to reading by a 3-1 final... Bradenton lost 5-2 at St. Lucie... State College lost 2-1 at Mahoning Valley in walk-off fashion.
