Triple-A Series Coming Up
July 9, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Most nights at Parkview Field, fans see prospects who are a few years away from the major leagues. This week they have the chance to see players who are a phone call away from the game's highest level. The San Diego Padres' Triple-A affiliate will play a four-game series in downtown Fort Wayne, July 14-17.
The Triple-A Tucson Padres will take on the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A Toronto Blue Jays) in a four- game weekend set. This one-time event allows fans to catch up with former Fort Wayne players - eleven Fort Wayne alums are currently on the Tucson roster.
"Fort Wayne has always been one of the top minor-league sports towns in the country and now our fans can get a small taste of Triple-A baseball right here at Parkview Field," TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. "We're thrilled to see some of our former stars come back and I know they're excited to get here."
Several players from the TinCaps' 2009 Midwest League championship team set to return as Tucson Padres. Former TinCaps RHP Brad Brach and 3B James Darnell were promoted to Triple- A during the past week.
"Parkview Field is the best park I've played at, hands down," Darnell said. "There are a lot of good ballparks, but [in Fort Wayne] it feels like you're in the big leagues. I'm really fortunate to be able to play there again."
In addition to baseball, fans will be treated to the same family-friendly entertainment found at TinCaps games. Friday is Back to the Future Night, sure to be 1.21 jigawatts of fun as fans embrace their inner Doc Brown (hoverboards optional). Myron Noodleman will make an appearance on Saturday. Post-game fireworks are slated for Friday and Saturday.
Thursday and Friday's games begin at 7:05 p.m. On Saturday, game time is set for 6:05 p.m. The series concludes Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. matinee.
Tickets are available for each game of the Triple-A series. To order, visit TinCaps.com, call (260) 482-6400 or visit the Parkview Field ticket office.
