Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Fort Wayne RHP Dennis O'Grady notched his first professional win, leading the TinCaps to a 5-3 victory over the Great Lakes Loons, Saturday at Dow Diamond. Oscar Garcia went 2-for-3.
The Loons were plagued by errors throughout the game, committing seven miscues in the field.
The TinCaps jumped ahead early when RHP Zach Lee hit Rico Noel with the first pitch of the game. Noel stole second and third, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Rymer Liriano.
In the fifth, Fort Wayne plated a pair of unearned runs. With runners at the corners and two outs, Liriano hit a soft liner which skipped off the glove of the second baseman, allowing Tyler Stubblefield to score. Garcia followed with a line-drive single to center to make it 3-0.
Great Lakes got on the board in the sixth when Bobby Coyle laced a two-out RBI single.
Fort Wayne tacked on single runs in the eighth and ninth; Garcia scored on Cole Tyrell's RBI single in the eighth. In the ninth, Noel reached on a two-error play and scored when Liriano reached on an infield hit making it 5-1.
The insurance runs proved valuable; Great Lakes rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Blake Dean bounced an RBI single to right and Jon Garcia followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3. A double by Michael Pericht put the tying run in scoring position, but RHP Chris Franklin induced a game- ending flyout to preserve the win.
O'Grady (1-0) fired six innings, allowing a run on four hits, walked one and struck out five. Lee (5- 3) took the loss.
The TinCaps advanced to 6-10 in the half, 36-49 for the season. Great Lakes dipped to 9-7 since the all-star break, 48-37 for the year.
The TinCaps and Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) continue the three-game series Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Dow Diamond. Fort Wayne's pitcher has yet to be announced; the Loons send RHP Angel Sanchez (3-2) to the mound.
