Lansing Lugnuts News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - The Lansing Lugnuts (9-7, 47-36) and Lake County Captains (6-10, 34-51) traded blows all game, with the Lugs' three-run eighth inning acting as the knockout punch, propelling them to a 7-6 win at Classic Park on Saturday night.

Lansing tallied three runs in the decisive eighth off Nick Sarianides (Loss, 4-4) thanks to an RBI single by Lance Durham that scored Marcus Knecht, a triple off the wall in left field by Bryson Namba scoring Durham, and a two-out error by Captains' shortstop Ronny Rodriguez allowing Namba to score the go-ahead run.

Brandon Berl (Win, 2-0), gave up a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two errors by the Lugs' defense, but the offense bounced right back to regain the lead. Berl handed the ball over to Dayton Marze, who picked up the two-inning save, his fourth of the year.

For the Captains, Alex Monsalve went 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, a run scored and an RBI, and Carlos Moncrief added a 2-for-5 night with a triple and a run scored.

Lugnuts centerfielder Jake Marisnick hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his seventh homer of the season.

The Lugnuts will send left-hander Egan Smith (3-3, 3.63) to the mound in game two of the series to battle with Captains lefty Mike Rayl (5-2, 1.90).

Lansing will be back in action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday, July 20, at 12:05 p.m., taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a Summer Fun Day. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
