July 9, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Comstock Park, MI - Hector Guevara picked up an RBI in his third straight game on Saturday night, but the Hot Rods opened a three-game series in West Michigan (9-7, 41-44) with a 7-3 loss at Fifth Third Ballpark. The defeat snaps the Hot Rods four-game winning streak as the begin a nine-game, ten-day road trip.
Guevara's run-producing streak continued for the Hot Rods in the top of the fourth inning. Trailing 5-0, the Hot Rods plated three runs against Alex Burgos (W; 4-1). The first three men reached before Nick Schwaner put Bowling Green on the broad with a force out. Robby Price followed with an RBI single before Guevara's infield single plated a third run to cut the deficit to 5-3.
That was as close as the Hot Rods could get as George Jensen (L; 8-3) saw the end of his personal eight-game winning streak, allowing two runs in the first and three more (one earned) in the third. He matched his shortest outing of the year by pitching three innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits, no walks, and a strikeout.
After the Hot Rods rallied in the fourth, West Michigan scored two more in the fifth with a home run from Nick Castellanos and an RBI single against Steve Hiscock. They added four in the eighth, thanks in part to another home run by Castellanos to push the lead to 11-3.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 12 PM CDT. LHP Enny Romero (2-5, 5.13) returns to the rotation against West Michigan RHP Josue Carreno (4-8, 5.05). You can follow the game with Tom Gauthier at 11:35 AM on 1340 WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
