Trio returns from AHL Chicago

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that goaltender Adam Berkhoel and forward Brad Schell and Joel Stepp have been assigned to the team from their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

Berkhoel, assigned to Chicago from NHL Atlanta on Monday, was called up the Thrashers on Saturday. For Berkhoel, it was his third call up to the Thrashers from the Gladiators this season and it was his sixth stint with the Wolves this season.

The Woodbury, Minnesota native has posted a 10-4-1 record in 15 games this season with the Gladiators. He made his NHL debut this year with the Thrashes making 24 saves on October 15th in a 5-1 loss against the New York Rangers. He made 32 saves to earn his first NHL victory in a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils on October 22nd.

Schell returns to the Gladiators after his second call up to the Wolves this season. He recorded a goal and two assists for three points in five games during his first call up from January 7th through January 26th. Schell did not register a point in five games during his last stint with Chicago.

The Scott, Saskatchewan native finished the 2005-06 regular season ranked second in scoring on the Gladiators with 79 points while his 56 assists ranked first with Gwinnett.

Acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Jani Hurme on March 1st, Joel Stepp appeared in one game with the Wolves while on recall to the AHL but did not register a point.

Stepp has posted 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points in 16 games with the Gladiators this year while he notched 13 goals and 26 assists with the Augusta Lynx in 38 games this season.

Berkhoel, Schell and Stepp should be available for the Gladiators when they open the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs on Saturday, April 15th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.
