Gwinnett's Campbell Named CCM Vector Most Valuable Player
April 12, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Wednesday that Gwinnett center
Jeff Campbell has been named the CCM Vector Most Valuable Player
for 2005-06.
The annual award is presented to the ECHL player adjudged to be the most
valuable to his team as voted by the coaches of the ECHL teams.
The 24-year-old Campbell was named First Team All-ECHL on Apr. 5 after
being named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team a year ago. He was fifth in the
league with 53 assists and 83 points in 62 games while he was tied for
second with seven game-winning goals and five shorthand goals. He also
played seven games in the American Hockey League with Lowell scoring two
points (1g-1a) in seven games. Selected to the ECHL All-Star Game in each
of his first two seasons, Campbell tied for second in the voting for the
ECHL Sportsmanship award and is the only player in Gladiators history to
post back-to-back 30-goal seasons.
Gwinnett was 50-15-7 and finished first in the American Conference and
third overall with 107 points. The Gladiators tied the 2004-05 Pensacola
Ice Pilots for the sixth-highest point total in ECHL history and became
only the ninth team in league history to win 50 games. Gwinnett set team
records for wins (50), home wins (29) and road wins (21).
Fresno left wing Luke Curtin (64 gp, 21g, 61a, 82 pts) finished
second while Alaska goaltender Matt Underhill (50 gp, 36-10-3, 5
shutouts, 2.28 GAA, .917 save pct.) was third and Las Vegas goaltender
Marc Magliarditi (51 gp, 34-11-5, 3 shutouts, 2.47 GAA, .909 save
