Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Home runs from Austin Meadows and Jung Ho Kang along with a career performance by Trevor Williams were the highlights as the Indians swept their doubleheader with Louisville in two 4-1 victories.
Game One
Starter Tyler Glasnow (8-3) began the evening with a strikeout, which would set the tone for the rest of game one. Glasnow earned the win as the Indians defeated Louisville, 4-1.
Pedro Florimon belted a leadoff double to put the Indians on the board, scoring on an error from right fielder Jesse Winker. A homer from Jung Ho Kang, who began his ML rehab today, joined Florimon's score at the top of fourth inning.
The Bats remained quiet throughout the first innings of the game, but tried for a comeback during the sixth inning. With two outs, Seth Mejias-Brean ushered in the first score for Louisville with an RBI single.
Austin Meadows answered late in the sixth inning with a two-run homer to collect a round-tripper in his second straight game.
Glasnow notched eight strikeouts before newcomer Zach Phillips took over the mound. Escaping a bases-loaded situation in the top of the sixth inning, Phillips was able to keep the Bats at bay, ending on a strikeout for his first save in Indianapolis.
Game Two
Indians starter Trevor Williams continued right where Glasnow left off in game one, putting up a career-high 10 strikeouts to defeat the Bats a second time with a final score of 4-1.
A defensive battle to start, the Indians (69-71) turned up the heat in the bottom of the fourth. After a deep double to right field delivered by Max Moroff, Meadows yet again showed his strength with an RBI single.
Dan Gamache followed suit just two batters later with an RBI single and was brought in for the third score of the night on a homer from Danny Ortiz. The Tribe sent nine men to the plate in the fourth.
Louisville (68-72) was able to bring in Dilson Herrera for the only score on the visitors' side in the sixth.
Williams (9-6) recorded his ninth win, while Drew Hayes (4-5) was handed the loss.
Indianapolis returns for the second-to-last home appearance of the 2016 season Friday night in a 7:15 start. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
