September 1, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Toledo Mud Hens ran roughshod over the Columbus Clippers Thursday night in route to an 8-1 blowout win at Huntington Park thanks to a four hit, six RBI night off the bat of Chad Huffman and six scoreless innings of pitching by Chad Bell.
Box Score September 1
Chad Bell has been one of the most reliable arms out of the Mud Hens pen this season, and he proved so why Thursday night, as he earned his tenth win of the season for Toledo. In route to the victory over the IL West champs, Bell went six innings allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out six. Shawn Haviland didn't have quite as a successful night as Bell, as Haviland allowed ten hits and eight runs through his six innings of work.
The Toledo Mud Hens jumped on the Clippers early Thursday night, as Chad Huffman followed up a Steven Moya single with a two-run home run for his 14th of the season to put the Hens up 2-0 in the first inning.
The Hens' hitters kept it rolling in the third inning, as Alex Presley led off with a line drive home run to right, his first with Toledo. Chad Huffman sauntered to the plate later in the inning with two men on and blasted a bombastic moon shot for his second home run of the game to put Toledo up 6-0. Following a Jason Krizan double, Argenis Diaz joined into the hit party with an RBI single to put the Hens up 7-0. Chad Huffman knocked in his sixth run of the game in the fourth inning via an RBI single to put the Mud Hens up 8-0.
Toledo's Dustin Molleken came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning and allowed a Jesus Aguilar solo home run, making it an 8-1 game.
Toledo plays game two of the series in Columbus Friday night, with the first pitch slated for 7:05 PM. The Hens send RHP Donn Roach (2-1, 3.09 ERA) to the mound, and the Clippers will counter with LHP Ryan Merritt (11-7, 3.43 ERA).
