
Flurry of Roster Moves Announced Today

UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC-- Chicago White Sox RHP Miguel Gonzalez, who has started four games with the Charlotte Knights this season, will return to the team today to make a Major League Baseball rehab start. Gonzalez, who is currently on Chicago's 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin, will start today's opening game for the Knights as they host the Norfolk Tides in a 1:05 p.m. afternoon contest from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
In addition to Miguel Gonzalez joining the Knights, the White Sox have recalled catcher Kevan Smith and RHP Juan Minaya from the Knights today. Additionally, catcher Alfredo Gonzalez has been promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham and LHP Aaron Bummer was also promoted to Charlotte's roster from High-A Winston-Salem. In one other move today, RHP Ryan Webb was activated off the DL and released by Chicago. Charlotte's roster now consists of 25 active players.
Gonzalez, a native of Guadalajara, MX, has appeared in 19 games (18 starts) with the White Sox this season and is 2-6 with a 4.05 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched. He was signed by the White Sox on April 7, 2016 and assigned to the Knights. In four games with Charlotte this season, Gonzalez posted a 1-0 record with a 2.65 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched.
Smith, a member of Chicago's 40-man roster, appeared in 49 games with the Knights this season and hit .219 (40-for-183) with eight home runs and 24 RBIs. He hit .345 (10-for-29) with two home runs and six RBIs in six games with the Knights in April and earned a promotion to Chicago on April 24. He was placed on Chicago's 15-day disabled list on April 26 and has yet to make his major league debut.
Minaya, 25, was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on June 23 and assigned to Charlotte. With the Knights in 17 games this year, the Dominican native posted a 4-3 record with one save and a 3.38 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched.
Alfredo Gonzalez, 24, hit .296 (40-for-135) in 39 games with the Barons this season. The White Sox acquired Gonzalez on July in a trade with the Houston Astros. He was designated for assignment by the Astros on June 25, 2016. He hit .158 (23-for-146) in 44 games earlier this season with Double-A Corpus Christi.
