LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats, Esurance and Big Brother Big Sisters of BBBS of Kentuckiana will recognize Markel Pugh one of the 14 Esurance Rising Star Students Program winners, during an on-field ceremony on September 4.
Markel Pugh will be presented with a $5,000 check from Esurance for college expenses. He is a notable high school student who is part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America(BBBS) mentor program and is getting ready for the next level, college.
Markel is studying computer forensics at the Sullivan Institute of Technology and Design. He credits his "Big" from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana for pushing him to succeed academically and to attend college. He aspires to open his own business one day.
"The Louisville Bats are excited to play a part in Markel Pugh's journey to attend the Sullivan Institute of Technology and Design," said Bats Senior Vice President Greg Galiette. "We would also like to thank Esurance and Big Brothers Big Sisters for choosing us to partner with them on this great opportunity to help a child in our community. The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is a major part of our community and we hope to put them in the spotlight this weekend."
Nominations for the Rising Star Students program were made in July and August by BBBS agencies. Submissions included unique and inspirational stories, academic accolades, college and career plans and more, focusing on why the individual was a "Rising Star" in his or her community. To be eligible, the nominees had to be classified as "Bigs" or "Littles" in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
In June, Esurance and Minor League Baseball announced a strategic multi-year partnership making it the exclusive home and auto insurance partner of Minor League Baseball. To learn more about Esurance's Call-Up Worthy campaign with Minor League Baseball, visit www.MiLB.com/CallUpWorthy.
