Tribe No-Hit, Blanked in Doubleheader at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Indianapolis Indians dropped the final two games of their weather-shortened road trip, 5-0 and 7-0, in Wednesday's twin bill at Syracuse. Four Chiefs pitchers combined for a seven-inning no-no in Game 1, marking the organization's first no-hitter in 18 years.

Austin Adams recorded the final three outs in Game 1 for Syracuse (8-4), on the heels of six no-hit frames between Austin Voth, David Goforth (W, 1-1) and Tim Collins. The no-hitter was the 17th in Syracuse's franchise history and first since Leo Estrella tossed a seven-inning perfect game against Indianapolis on June 17, 2000.

Indianapolis (5-6) had just two baserunners in the first contest. Kevin Kramer was hit by pitch in the fourth inning and Christopher Bostick worked a walk during his pinch-hit at-bat in the sixth.

Syracuse plated two runs in the first, one in the second and another in the third, but lost its starter Voth after three innings of play when was hit on the hand while batting.

No matter the opposing pitcher, Indy couldn't tally a hit. The Tribe hadn't been no-hit by an opponent since Charlotte's Andre Rienzo did so in Game 1 of a doubleheader on July 25, 2013.

Tyler Eppler (L, 1-1) saw his 9.2-inning scoreless streak to start the season vanish in the first. He was charged with four earned runs on eight hits in three innings pitched.

The Chiefs sealed the doubleheader sweep and series victory behind five first-inning runs in Game 2. Syracuse sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening frame, tallying seven hits - six off Tribe starter Alex McRae (L, 0-2) - to drop Indy below .500 for a third time in 2018.

Jose Marmolejos cranked a two-run shot off Tyler Jones in the fourth to make it 7-0. Syracuse starter Tommy Milone (W, 1-0) earned the win with five scoreless innings, scattering three hits and two walks with five punchouts.

Jose Osuna laced a double and single in Game 2 to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

The Indians return to Victory Field to open a six-game homestand beginning Friday, April 20, with the Charlotte Knights coming to Circle City. Right-hander Clay Holmes (0-0, 13.50) is slated to start the series opener for the Tribe, opposite Knights righty Michael Kopech (0-0, 0.90).
