
RailRiders swept by Stripers

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell 6-3 to the Gwinnett Stripers at Coolray Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Stripers outhit the RailRiders 13-7 to complete a three-game series sweep.
For the second consecutive game, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored first. In the top of the first, Abiatal Avelino singled in Kyle Higashioka for a 1-0 RailRiders lead. Gwinnett, however, scored three runs on four hits off Georgia native David Hale in the bottom of the first. Johan Camargo, Carlos Franco and Rio Ruiz each drove home runs for a 3-1 Stripers advantage.
Gwinnett added a run against Hale in the second when Jaff Decker drove in Christian Colon. The Stripers extended the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits for a 6-1 lead.
The RailRiders got one run back in the top of the sixth. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loaded the bases on a hit and two walks. Ryan McBroom was hit by a pitch, which cut the deficit to four runs at 6-2.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre closed the scoring against reliever Rex Brothers in the top of the ninth. Cesar Diaz, making his Triple-A debut, was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on a sac fly by Gleyber Torres.
Hale (0-1) took the loss, allowing all six runs on 12 hits over four innings. Max Fried (1-0) held the RailRiders to a pair of runs on five hits over five and a third pitched.
The RailRiders are off Thursday and start a six-game homestand on Friday. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will host Toledo and Columbus from April 20 through 25.
