October 18, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA- After a tough loss last night, the Tri-City Americans (4-4-1-0, 9 pts) bounced back on Saturday night, as Tyler Sandhu's two goal performance helped the Americans defeat the Portland Winterhawks (2-6-0-0, 4 pts) 4-2 in front of 3,652 at the Toyota Center.
It took 40 seconds for the Americans to get on the board, as Sandhu banged in a loose puck to take an early lead. But the Winterhawks answered with a goal of their own two minutes later, as Alex Schoenborn fired it into the net. Portland outshot the Americans 14-13, but the score was knotted at one going into the second period.
Early in the second, a Portland power play allowed an opportunity to take the lead, as Dominic Turgeon fired a shot from the slot into the top left corner of the net for a 2-1 lead. Tri-City tied the game less than two minutes later on the power play. Parker Wotherspoon's shot from the blue line was tipped by Michael Rasmussen and into the net. Late in the period, Tri-City retook the lead as Sandhu scored his second of the game, swatting the puck out of the air and into the net to grab the advantage going into the third.
The Americans added another goal to the lead 7:50 into the third on the power play. Parker Bowles lit the red lamp to push the lead to 4-2. Portland pressed to get back into the game, but Evan Sarthou was on his game in the third, stopping all 10 shots he faced to lead the Americans to victory. Tri-City snaps a three game losing streak.
Portland was 1-of-7 on the power play and recorded 16 penalty minutes. Tri-City converted 2-of-4 power play chances and spent 20 minutes in the penalty box.
Evan Sarthou stopped 30 shots in the win, while Adin Hill made 23 saves in the loss.
The Americans have some days off before they are back in action against the Seattle Thunderbirds (5-1-1-0, 11 pts). Game time is at 7:05 p.m. at the ShoWare Center. Tri-City won the only previous meeting between these two teams 6-5, in overtime on Oct. 4 at the Toyota Center.
