Saskatoon, SK. - The Brandon Wheat Kings kicked off their longest road trip of the season Saturday night by scoring a 4-1 victory over the Blades in Saskatoon.

Captain Macoy Erkamps scored once and set up another and 17-year old Tanner Kaspick's second period shorthanded goal turned out to be the game winner as the Wheat Kings improved to 6-1-0-2 on the season.

John Quenneville and Jayce Hawryluk also scored for the Wheat Kings, who were playing their first of eight straight games on the road.

Ryan Graham scored in a losing cause for the Blades, who trailed 1-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks and were outshot 41-24, including 17-3 in the final period.

In picking up the win between the pipes, Jordan Papirny stopped 23 Saskatoon shots while the Blades' netminding tandem of Brock Hamm and Nik Amundrud teamed up to stop 37.

The Wheat Kings, who will kick off the U.S. Division tour on Wednesday night with a game against the Chiefs in Spokane, have now compiled an impressive 5-0-0-1 record through their last six games.

Saskatoon's record meanwhile slipped to 3-2-3.

Saturday's game marked the WHL debut of 18-year old rookie defenceman James Shearer. The former AAA Midget Wheat King had been with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Steinbach Pistons, where he was chosen that League's Rookie of the Year in 2014-15.
