Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Thunder (48-29) scored two unearned runs in the first and grabbed the opener from the Portland Sea Dogs (27-48), 3-0 in a 5-inning rain-shortened contest on Monday night at Arm & Hammer Park. The game was officially called after a 1-hour and 10-minute rain delay.
LHP Jordan Montgomery (6-3) gets credited for a 3-hit shutout, issuing one walk and fanning five. RHP Keith Couch (4-4) took the loss for the Sea Dogs, working 4+ innings on 7 hits and 3 runs.
The game was delayed 33 minutes at the start due to rain, and the Thunder scored two unearned runs in the first inning. Tyler Wade reached on Mauricio Dubon's error to start Trenton's rally. Mark Payton followed with a single and moved to second base on the throw to third base. Miguel Andujar and Lane Adams provided run-scoring groundouts.
In the fifth, Andujar knocked in the final run with a single. The game was officially put in a delay after Adams single.
Sean Coyle went 2-for-2 and Tim Roberson picked up a double.
The Portland Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) meet in the middle game of their series on Tuesday night beginning at 7:00 PM from Arm & Hammer Park. LHP Jalen Beeks (0-1, 5.40) makes his second Double-A start for Portland. RHP Vicente Campos (3-0, 2.08) will make his 5th start of the year for Trenton.
