Trenton Thunder News Release
The Trenton Thunder won a rain-shortened ballgame, 3-0 over the Portland Sea Dogs to begin a three-game series and seven-game homestand.
Monday's ballgame began in a 33-minute delay, with the Thunder jumping on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Tyler Wade led-off the 1st inning by reaching on a throwing error by the shortstop Mauricio Dubon. Wade was in motion when Mark Payton slapped a single into left field, so the Thunder shortstop advanced first-to-third, drawing the throw of the left fielder Cody Decker. Payton took second base on the throw and the Thunder were in business with two men in scoring position.
The next batter was Miguel Andujar, and he grounded out to first baseman Nate Freiman to score Wade and advance Payton to third base. Lane Adams followed with an RBI groundout to Dubon to plate Payton for a 2-0 lead.
Thunder starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery gets credited with a complete-game shutout, allowing three his and walking a batter in 5.0 innings pitched. His season ERA lowered to 2.88 with the effort, 6th in the Eastern League among qualified starting pitchers.
