Barker Strong in Decisive Win
June 27, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
The Baysox got an eight-inning effort from Brandon Barker and three big innings in a 10-1 win in the series opener in Harrisburg. Eight of Bowie's nine hitters had a basehit in the ballgame.
It was a pitcher's duel out of the gate as the game did not have a hit until the fourth inning. That's when the Baysox got rolling. Julio Borbon singled, stole second and reached third on the throwing error by catcher Spencer Kieboom. Garabez Rosa then singled Borbon home to start the scoring. Next man up Chance Sisco doubled to left-center scoring Rosa and Henry Urrutia's RBI-single plated another. The Baysox would get a fourth run on a sac-fly from Jeff Kemp to lead 4-0.
In the sixth inning, Joey Terdoslavich, who made a diving catch for a double play earlier, hit a two-run home run to right field to lead 6-0. A Glynn Davis RBI-double later in the inning made it 7-0.
Barker was outstanding allowing just a sixth inning solo home run. He was just the third Baysox pitcher to make it through eight innings in a game this season. He worked through the first five frames in just 53 pitches and struck out the last three batters faced in the game to finish with a flourish. Jon Keller worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Garabez Rosa registered two hits on the night and is not one hit behind Caleb Joseph for the all-time Baysox Franchise record with 421 hits.
The Baysox play game two of the three-game series in Harrisburg Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. with David Hess on the hill. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on 1430- AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.
Bowie returns home for Independence Day Monday, July 4th at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are selling fast! A huge Fireworks extravaganza follows the game! Purchase over the phone at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
