(Trenton, NJ)- Binghamton RHP Tobi Stoner tossed a complete-game shutout to lift the Mets to 4-0 win over Trenton in the first game of a double-header on Saturday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Trenton won the night-cap 4-1. Trenton has won two of the first three games in the series. In the first game, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Right fielder Salvador Paniagua. The home run was his first of the season. The Mets extended the lead in the sixth inning on a two-out three-run double by Paniagua.

RHP Brian Bruney started for Trenton on a major league rehabilitation stint for the New York Yankees. He pitched a 1-2-3 first inning. He threw 12 pitches (eight strikes/four balls). RHP Ryan Pope (2-5) came on for Bruney and yielded nine hits and four runs over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. He retired 11 of the first 13 batters he faced. Stoner yielded only three hits in a complete-game shutout. It was his first career complete-game shutout. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. He retired 14 straight at one point. In his Double-A debut, Trenton Right fielder Richie Robnett went 1 x 3.

In the second game, Trenton (32-29) took a 3-0 in the second inning on a two-out three-run home run by Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci. Leading 3-1 in the third inning, the Thunder added to their advantage on a solo home run by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez. Trenton Starting Pitcher Josh Schmidt yielded four hits and one run over three innings for a no-decision. Trenton added a run in the fifth inning as Center fielder Justin Snyder scored from third base on an error by Binghamton Shortstop Ruben Tejada. Trenton Reliever Kevin Whelan (2-0) earned the win in relief of Schmidt. He tossed 1 2/3 shutout innings. Binghamton Starting Pitcher Eric Niesen (0-1) allowed three hits and five runs in five innings to take the loss in his Double-A debut. All four of Trenton's hits were extra-base hits.

Trenton wraps up its four-game series on Sunday afternoon against Binghamton (Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets). Game time is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (3-3, 3.66) starts for Trenton. Binghamton's Starting Pitcher is TBD.
