The Arkansas Travelers have scored 22 runs on 35 hits over the first three games of their series in Springfield, producing double digit hits in each of the three games.

Springfield, MO - The Arkansas Travelers and Springfield Cardinals split a doubleheader on Sunday, with the Cards winning game one 9-8 and the Travs taking game two 6-1 at Hammons Field.

Game One

Arkansas and Springfield each plated at least one run in each of the first eight half-innings in game one. The Travs led 1-0, 5-2 and 7-5, but Springfield persistently continued its fight back, eventually taking the lead for good with a run in the fifth.

The two teams combined to belt 24 hits over the seven innings, including four Cardinals home runs. 3B Paul DeJong and LF C.J. McElroy Jr. both launched their first home runs of the season, RF David Washington blasted his fourth of the season 1B Luke Voit his fifth.

Travs starter RHP Jordan Kipper (L, 2-1), an outing after tossing eight two-hit shutout innings in Tulsa, allowed eight runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings.

With Arkansas trailing 9-7 in the seventh, CF Chad Hinshaw belted a solo home run to left to slice the deficit in half, but that's all the Travs would get.

LF Bo Way finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a walk.

SS Anthony Phillips went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Game Two

Making both his Double-A and Angels organizational debuts, RHP Troy Scribner (W, 1-0) tossed five no-hit innings en route to the Travs 6-1 game two victory.

Scribner, who was traded from Houston in late March, issued four walks, all in the second inning, allowed the one run and struck out seven.

A day after finishing 5-for-5, Travs SS Sherman Johnson went 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Johnson is 10-for-14 with two home runs, seven runs scored, three doubles and three RBIs over the first three games of the series. The infielder is now leading the Texas League with a .393 batting average.

The Travs jumped out on top for good in the first inning. Johnson led off the game with a single and LF Chad Hinshaw blasted a two-run home run, his second homer in as many plate appearances.

RHP Austin Wood, LHP Tyler DeLoach and RHP D.J. Johnson combined to throw the final two innings of scoreless relief for Arkansas.

With the split, the Travs remain two games behind the Cardinals in the Texas League North. The two teams will conclude the series on Monday morning at Hammons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 a.m.
