
Nielsen Shuts Down Travs in Chilly Finale

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals took the series finale 7-1 over the Arkansas Travelers on Monday morning at Hammons Field.
RHP Trey Nielsen (W, 2-2) limited the Travs to just one hit over six shutout innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Springfield scored twice in the second inning to jump out in front. RHP Alex Blackford (L, 2-2) walked four batters in the frame and six over his three innings.
The Cards plated one in the sixth and four in the eighth, capped by a DH David Washington three-run home run, to take a 7-0 lead.
The lone run for Arkansas came in the ninth on a RF Chad Hinshaw single and DH Eric Aguilera RBI double.
SS Sherman Johnson, who was named Texas League Player of the Week prior to the game, had his 10-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-4 afternoon. CF Bo Way also had his hitting streak of nine games ended.
With the loss, Arkansas fell to 10-14 on the season and is now in third place in the Texas League North division. After finishing the road trip 3-5, the Travs return home Tuesday to begin an eight-game homestand with four games against Tulsa and four versus Northwest Arkansas. First pitch Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
