Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped the series finale to the Corpus Christi Hooks by a score of 8-2 Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks (11-12) got off to a fast start against Riders starting pitcher Sam Wolff (4-1). Chase McDonald's two-run single marked the first blow of the night in a four-run first inning. Corpus Christi added two more runs in the third on a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly. Wolff dropped his first game of the season after opening the campaign with wins in all four of his April starts. He gave up six runs, surrendered five hits, and walked five batters in four innings pitched.

The Hooks added a tally in the sixth, and finished the scoring in the ninth on a solo home run off the bat of McDonald, who ended the four-game series with three home runs and 11 RBI.

While Wolff struggled, the same could not be said for Hook starter Joe Musgrove (2-1), who pitched six scoreless innings to earn the victory, while lowering his league-best ERA to 0.39. The RoughRiders (17-6) put a total of six men on base, including three in scoring position, in the first four innings against the Astros No. 8 prospect, but could not bring any of the runners across the plate.

With Musgrove out of the game, the RoughRiders got on the board in the eighth inning on a solo home run from Luis Mendez, his first of the season. Frisco's other run came on an RBI single by Preston Beck in the ninth. Beck finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Garrett Weber went 3-for-4 in the loss.

Ryan Cordell extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a first-inning walk, but saw his 17-game hitting streak come to an end in Monday's loss.

The Riders head to San Antonio for a four-game series against the Missions beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Victor Payano (2-0, 4.15 ERA) will make the start for Frisco against former RoughRiders pitcher Fabio Castillo (2-3, 4.88 ERA). Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the RoughRiders will return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for four games against the Midland RockHounds, including Paint the Park Pink Night on Saturday, May 7. Tickets for the next homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
