FRISCO, TEXAS - One week after being named Texas League Player of the Week, Frisco RoughRiders outfielder Ryan Cordell has been named Texas League Player of the Month for April.

In 21 games during the season's opening month, Cordell hit .363 with five home runs and 22 RBI, turning in the best statistical month of his career. He finished April as the league leader in doubles (9), runs (20), and slugging percentage (.688), while placing in the top five of many other offensive categories. Cordell reached base in all 21 games in May, while recording a hit in all but one.

He picked up right where he left off Sunday, hitting a solo home run in his first at-bat of May. The homer, his sixth, extended his on-base streak to 22 games, while keeping his 17-game hitting streak alive, too.

Aside from his offensive abilities, Cordell also turned in a handful of defensive gems, including a full-extension diving catch in Friday's win against Corpus Christi.

This is Cordell's first Player of the Month honor at any level. He has won three Player of the Week awards in his career, including his honor last week.

Cordell and the Riders conclude their eight-game homestand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Corpus Christi Hooks at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tickets are available online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or http://atmilb.com/1NAKPcl
