
Travs Drop Third Straight To Cards, 10-3

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas - The Springfield Cardinals (33-29, 69-60) hit three more home runs and whipped the Arkansas Travelers (31-32, 62-71). The Cards used a five-run rally in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie and pull ahead for good. Amaury Marti hit a three-run homer (6) in the third inning, while Rico Washington (1) and Colby Rasmus (27) also hit long balls during the game. Travs RHP Miguel Gonzalez (7-4) took the loss and saw his ERA rise to 3.33, second in the league, by allowing six runs on eight hits, three walks, two homers and two hit batters over four innings. Springfield LHP Eric Haberer (13-7) earned the win with six innings pitched allowing three runs on seven hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Travs 3B Freddy Sandoval connected on two base hits including a two-run triple. With the Travs dropping their third straight game, they fall 2.5 games behind Springfield for first place and three games behind Tulsa for the wildcard spot.
The Cardinals jumped on top when the first pitch of the second inning was smacked over the right field wall by Washington (1).
Haberer gave the run back in the bottom of the second inning helping out the Travs with walks to their first two hitters. Ben Johnson then hit a high chopper over the third baseman for an RBI single to tie the game.
For the fourth straight inning, the Cards got their leadoff man to reach base when Mark Hamilton singled then advanced to third when Reid Gorecki hit a double off the left-field wall. Both scored when Casey Rowlett hit a hard single to center giving the Cards a 3-1 lead. Gonzalez battled back getting Rasmus on strikes Martinez on a groundout. However he walked Cody Haerther and Marti followed with an opposite-field three-run blast to give Springfield a 6-1 lead.
Haberer kept the Travs at bay until they opened the seventh inning with singles by Pali and Fuller. The Cards brought in RHP Kyle McClellan from the bullpen and he got two quick outs before Sandoval drove a triple to left-center field chasing home two runs to get the Travs within a 6-3 score.
The Cards scored the game's last four runs getting an RBI single from Washington in the eighth inning, and Rasmus's league-leading 27th blast, a three-run jack in the ninth.
Time of game was 3:12 and the paid attendance was 6,073. The Travs averaged 5,643 per opening during their inaugural season at Dickey-Stephens Park.

The Travs now take to the road for a season-ending seven-game road trip and begin with four games at Tulsa. The Travs plan on RHP Fernando Rodriguez (7-3, 4.10 ERA) pitching the opener while Springfield counters with RHP Jon Asahina (2-4, 4.99 ERA). First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m.
