Rockhounds Take Series Finale from 'Riders
August 27, 2007 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
Ben Fritz and Michael Schlact locked up in a pitcher's duel through the first seven innings Monday night as the Rockhounds defeated the âRiders, 3-2, at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Anthony Recker's two run home run in the seventh gave the Rockhounds the win.
Schlact surrendered a solo home run in the first inning to Jeff Baisley, but held the Rockhounds to just one hit over the next six innings. Fritz carried a no hitter through the first six innings walking just two batters.
Chris Davis broke up Fritz's no hit bid with a bloop single that fell between three Rockhounds in centerfield. Steve Murphy followed with another single to right and John Mayberry advanced both of the runners with a sacrifice bunt. The RoughRiders tied the game when Davis scored on a wild pitch by Fritz. Taylor Teagarden drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly off of Midland reliever Jerry Blevins that made the score 2-1.
Midland quickly regained the lead in the eighth inning on a two run home run by Recker to take a 3-2 lead.
Schlact (3-2) took the loss despite allowing just three runs on four hits in eight innings of work. Schlact also struck out five and walked one. Fritz did not factor in the decision surrendering two runs on two hits in 6 1/3 innings. Blevins (1-3) picked up the victory in relief.
The âRiders will finish the season with eight games in seven days on the road beginning Tuesday night in Corpus Christi. Scott Shoemaker (5-2) will start in the opener for Frisco while Josh Muecke (8-5) takes the hill for the Hooks.
