Travis Brown's Booming Slap Shot in OT Gives Beast Series Win over Royals

Brampton Beast News Release
READING, PENNSYLVANIA - With the Brampton Beast on a 4-on-3 power play in the extra frame, Travis Brown teed up a one-timer and sent a bomb of a slap shot into the open net, giving the Beast a 3-2 overtime win over the Reading Royals at Santander Arena in Reading on Monday night.
After a forced two-day rest on account of a giant blizzard that pounded most of the Northeastern United States, the Beast were able to complete the sweep of the Royals with the overtime winner with 3:14 to go in the extra frame.
Steven Kaunisto had a two-point night with a pair of assists to extend his point streak to three games and Beast goaltender Jordan Ruby picked up his second straight win with 33 saves.
The Beast power play helped them earn the game's opening goal as Reggie Traccitto accepted a pass near the top of the left circle and one-timed a bullet of a slap shot through a crowd and through the Royals' goaltender Martin Ouellette at 8:10 of the opening frame.
The Royals came out flying in the second period but the Beast defense stood tall to keep the puck out of their own net. Beast starter Jordan Ruby stopped several huge opportunities in the second period, including a giant glove save off the stick of Matt Hatch, just as he exited the penalty box near the midway point of the period.
The Beast surged and continued to improve throughout the period and were rewarded for their efforts. Right off an offensive zone faceoff, Tim Bozon finished off a nice passing play by redirecting the puck behind Ouellette at 6:40.
With the second period winding down, Jeff Brown took a slashing penalty with just 14 seconds remaining in the period and the Royals quickly made the Beast pay. Former Beast Yannick Tifu redirected a point shot over the glove hand of Ruby with just seven seconds remaining in the period to cut the Beast lead to 2-1.
The Royals found the equalizer early in the third period as Pavel Padakin finished off a broken play off at 3:24. Robbie Czarnik sent a shot toward the goal that changed direction in front of the netminder and ended up in the back of the net.
There were no other goals to give us a winner in regulation, so the game went to overtime for the second time this week and the fourth time this season against the Royals.
Just three seconds into the extra frame, Royals forward Scott Tanski slashed the stick out of the Beast player's hands, resulting in a 4-on-3 power play for the Beast.
Travis Brown made them pay as he took a perfect pass from Steven Kaunisto and rifled a perfect shot over the glove hand of Ouellette to send the Best home with a big two points.
Notes: The Beast finished the game 2-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Pavel Padakin 2) Yannick Tifu 1) Travis Brown.
The Beast's next game is on Friday, January 29 as they head to Toledo to face the Walleye. The Beast are back at home on January 31 to host the Wheeling Nailers for their annual Star Wars game. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
