ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, had a successful week snapping their losing skid on Monday at home and then traveling to Norfolk where they took three of a possible four points against the Admirals.

Previewing the Upcoming Week:

1/27 vs. Reading Royals - 7:05 p.m. EST

Home vs. REA 1-3-0, Away vs. REA 3-2-0

Wednesday night will mark the 123rd all-time regular season game between the Jackals and the Royals, making the Royals the most frequently played opponent of the Jackals. The Jackals are 55-55-12 all-time against the Royals, including a 4-5-0 record in nine meetings this year. This year, the Royals took two of the first three meetings in October. However, Elmira won consecutive 5-4 thrillers on Nov. 20 & 21 to take the season series lead. On Dec. 18, the Jackals took their third straight in the series improving their season record to 3-1-0-0 in Reading. Recently, however, the goals have been hard to come by for the Jackals. On Dec 19 & 26, Reading's Adam Morrison posted back to back shutouts for the Royals to even the season series at four apiece. On Jan. 15, Martin Oullette posted a 4-0 shutout, the Royals third consecutive against the Jackals to take the season series lead. Cason Hohmann and Colin Jacobs have each scored three goals versus Reading this year, while Hohmann leads the Jackals with six assists and nine points in the nine meetings this season.

1/29 vs. Wheeling Nailers - 7:05 p.m. EST; 1/30 vs. Wheeling Nailers - 7:05 p.m. EST

Home vs. WHL 0-0-0, Away vs. WHL 1-0-0

The Jackals will host the Wheeling Nailers on Friday and Saturday night for the first two meetings at First Arena this season. These long-time rivals have met just once this season, in Wheeling on December 6th. That meeting marked the latest in a season these two clubs have faced-off since the Jackals joined the ECHL. In that contest, Jacob MacDonald scored a shorthanded goal and Tyler Currier added a goal en route to a 3-2 shootout win with Justin Bernhardt recording the winner in the skills competition. Niklas Lundstrom stopped 42 shots faced and both attempts in the shootout to earn the win and help the Jackals continue their winning streak. This weekend's meetings mark the second and third of six total matchups this season, which is the second-lowest total in a single season between the Jackals and Nailers. This will also be the first year since the 2010-11 campaign that these two former divisional rivals have not faced off at least 13 times. The Jackals are 42-32-11 all-time against Wheeling.

Recapping Last Week:

1/22 at Norfolk Admirals: OTL 2-3

Ian Young scored his first career goal and Cason Hohmann posted his 11th tally of the season in his return from injury, but the Jackals fell in overtime to the Norfolk Admirals, 3-2.

The Jackals and Admirals battled through a tight first period without penalties and the lone blemish for Elmira came off a flukey bounce. Michael Pelech won the face-off back to Samuel Noreau who fired a shot that was partially blocked and went wide of the net. Jonathan Lessard retrieved it and turned to throw the puck back out in front but it deflected off goaltender Alex Vazzano and trickled in behind him.

The Jackals started the second period with jump and quickly evened the score at one apiece. Blake Hietala won a foot-race to negate an icing call and won the boards battle with some assistance from Colin Jacobs. With possession of the puck, Hietala turned up the wall played a pass to the point for Ian Young who fired a wrist shot towards the net with a screen in front sending it past Ty Rimmer and tying the game at 1:25 of the second period. Young's goal was his first career goal and first ECHL point. Hietala's helper was also his first ECHL point. The Jackals continued their pressure throughout the frame and received some puck luck of their own at the midway point of the frame. Cason Hohmann, Tyler Gjurich and Chris Langkow provided relentless pressure in the offensive zone causing a bouncing puck to pop out in the slot and after a few whacks at it Hohmann hammered it home for his 11th goal of the season. Gjurich and Ian Young earned the helpers on Hohmann's goal in his first game back since January 3rd. Young's assist was also his first ECHL assist and with the earlier goal he earned his first multi-point game.

Elmira carried its one-goal lead into the final frame and bogged down the Norfolk attack stifling any offensive rush. However, a power-play and another lucky bounce late in the game led to the tying goal. Guy LeBoeuf raced back for a dump in and turned to fire it around the zone and down the ice but the puck took an unfriendly bounce off of the stanchion and popped out into the slot. Jonathan Lessard turned and fired the puck on net which was saved by Vazzano but the rebound bounced to Michael Pelech for the put-back goal at 18:18 of the third period.

The contest went to overtime and as time was winding down a broken stick led to the game-winning goal. While being pushed down to the ice Alexandre Ranger played the puck on net which was easily paddled aside by Vazzano but the puck went to Alexis Loiseau who dropped it to Gabriel Verpaelst walking into the slot all alone. Verpaelst tried to one-time the pass and broke his stick sending the puck dribbling through the unsuspecting five-hole of Vazzano for the game-winner at3:28 of overtime.

Alex Vazzano stopped 29 of 32 shots faced but suffered the overtime loss. Ty Rimmer stopped 27 of 29 shots faced for the win.

1/23 at Norfolk Admirals: W 3-2

With the win tonight, the Elmira Jackals captured three of a possible four points in their weekend set against the Norfolk Admirals. Cason Hohmann scored twice and Tyler Currier recorded the game-winning goal as the Jackals battled past the Admirals 3-2. C.J. Motte made 44 saves to earn his 11th win of the season.

Cason Hohmann has helped reignite the Jackals offense this weekend after sitting out since January 3rd. The rookie forward scored in last night's overtime loss and added two tallies tonight. He opened the scoring on the power-play at 6:52 with his 12th goal of the season. Elmira's power-play unit moved the puck well in the offensive zone with Jacob MacDonald and Kyle Bushee setting up Cason Hohmann for the slap shot from the top of the circle. The Jackals were buzzed around Norfolk in the first period out-shooting the Admirals 12-3.

Norfolk pushed back in the second period and evened the score just 50 seconds in. Devin Mantha worked the puck up the wall to the point where Gabriel Verpaelst fired a shot that was saved by C.J. Motte but the rebound popped to Alexis Loiseau and he deposited it between Motte's legs for his ninth goal of the season. The Admirals continued to press as the momentum shifted back-and-forth but the Jackals held the line and eventually battled back ahead with Hohmann's second goal of the night. Ian Young started the play ahead to Tyler Gjurich who deked into the offensive zone and released a shot saved by Ty Rimmer and directed into the corner. Cason Hohmann dug the puck free and walked into the circle firing a wrist shot past Rimmer for his team-leading 13th goal of the season at 14:14 of the frame. Gjurich's assist gives him helpers in three straight games and Young has recorded three points in the two-game set.

The Jackals carried their one-goal lead into the third period for the second consecutive night only to see it disappear 4:03 into play. Greg Chase picked up a cross-ice pass off the wall and raced down the right-wing side stepping past Jacob MacDonald and lifting a backhand past Motte. Verpaelst and Loiseau assisted Chase's seventh goal of the season. The Admirals fired 24 shots on goal in the third period but Chase's goal was the last to pass by Motte. After successfully killing off a five-minute penalty kill the Jackals earned a power-play of their own and pounced on the opportunity. With Alex Ranger in the penalty box for slashing the Jackals wasted little time scoring their second power-play goal of the night just 19 seconds into the man advantage. Kevin Clare released a wrist shot from the point that appeared to be deflected by Tyler Currier in front as he provided the screen for the eventual game-winning goal.

C.J. Motte stopped 44 of 46 shots faced to earn his 11th win of the season. Ty Rimmer stopped 26 shots faced on 29 attempts and was handed the loss.

- Ian Young scored his first professional goal on Friday night. In addition to his first goal and ECHL point, Young added an assist and recorded his first career multi-point game.

- Cason Hohmann has scored in two consecutive games and has a current four-game point streak (three goals, three assists).
