Evansville IceMen News Release
SOUTHERN COMFORT
The Evansville IceMen started off their six game road trip with wins Friday and Saturday against Greenville and Atlanta, respectively. Evansville's offense exploded for three goals in the second period and three more in the third in a 6-3 win over the Swamp Rabbits. The IceMen then saw a 2-0 lead evaporate against the Gladiators, but proceeded to score twice in the third period to earn their second straight win in the Southeast.
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE
Rookie Chris Rumble had a weekend to remember, notching three goals and two assists for the IceMen. The Buffalo, NY native scored his first career hat trick Friday and added an assist in his first professional game as a forward. Rumble picked up another assist Saturday back at his normal position on the blue line in the 4-3 win at Atlanta.
WELL DUNN
Forward Vincent Dunn, known for his seven fights thus far in his rookie campaign, kept the gloves on over the weekend and picked up three points (one goal, two assists) in the two games. The 20-year-old from Hull, QC scored the sixth Evansville goal Friday at Greenville in the 6-3 victory, and contributed assists on the first and fourth goals Saturday at Atlanta.
WE THREE SWEDES
Three big reasons the IceMen were successful in knocking off the Gladiators Saturday were Evansville's Swedish trio. Christoffer Bengtsberg stopped 34 shots in an impressive outing in net to earn his fourth win of the season. Forward Sebastian Strandberg showed off his speed on a dazzling breakaway goal in the first period, and blocked two big shots in the final seconds to help preserve the narrow win. And Jonathan Carlsson, known as a stay-at-home defenseman, scored the game-winning goal in the third period, his first ECHL goal since March 31, 2010 when he played for the Toledo Walleye.
UNBEATEN NO MO
Missouri carries the most points in the ECHL into the second half of the season, as the Mavericks continue what's been a historic season. However, after 14 straight home wins to start the season, the Mavericks allowed five third period goals Saturday in a 6-3 loss to Tulsa, giving Missouri its first blemish at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR
Last time the IceMen faced the Mavericks, Evansville had a 3-1 lead in the third period January 2 at the Ford Center. But Missouri scored two goals to force overtime and completed the comeback in the extra period to win 4-3 and extend its winning streak at the time to seven games. The Mavericks sit atop the Western Conference with a 31-5-1-1 record and host the IceMen four times in the second half of the season.
WESTBOUND TO WICHITA
The IceMen head to Wichita, KS after the game Tuesday night in Missouri for a 7:05pm Wednesday contest with the Wichita Thunder. Last time the two teams met, the Thunder squeaked out a 3-2 shootout win at the Ford Center in Evansville January 3. Wichita dropped Sunday's game at Allen 5-4 and return home, where the Thunder is 5-10-2-3 this season. Evansville defenseman Michael Trebish returns to Wichita for the first time since he was traded to the IceMen this summer. Trebish recorded nine points (one goal, eight assists) and 173 penalty minutes in 70 games last season for the Thunder.
