The RiverHawks got the first run of the game in the first inning as Ted Obregon homered to lead off the bottom of the frame for a 1-0 Rockford lead.
Traverse City would get on the board in the fouth as walks to Chase Burch, Kyle Colligan and Marcus Nidiffer loaded the bases with one out. Chris Kay came up next and hit a sac fly to center to score Burch and tie the game at 1-1.
Rockford would get the run back in the fourth as Jet Butler homered to make it 2-1. The RiverHawks would add to the lead with three runs in the fifth, keyed by an RBI single by Obregon.
The Beach Bums fought back, scoring a run in the sixth on a single by Kyle Eveland to score Colligan who had led off the inning with a double. The RiverHawks would extend the lead, however, with three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth to push the lead to 11-2.
Traverse City capped the scoring in the ninth as Chase Burch hit his 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot also bringing home Jose Vargas who had doubled leading off the inning.
Ziggie VanderWall (5-3) earned the win with 5.1 innings of two run ball. Reid Kelly (7-3) took the loss despite striking out eight batters.
The Beach Bums return home on Sunday where they will take on the Joliet Slammers for a Family FUNday Sunday and Classic Car night sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. All kids who run the bases after the game will receive a free ticket to the Beach Bums Family Carnival and Michigan National Guard Community Appreciation Day on July 28.
