Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- The Joliet Slammers comeback fell just short Saturday night at Silver Cross Field in a 6-5 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts.

Joliet got moving right away with a pair of runs in the first inning, courtesy of an Abel Nieves RBI single, and a fielder's choice by David Fox, making it 2-0.

The Bolts proceeded to score six unanswered runs against Slammers pitching. In the third, Travis Weaver scored on a wild pitch, and Chad Cregar launched a three-run home run, putting Windy City ahead 4-2. They added a run in the fourth off a sacrifice fly from Brandon Pearl that brought home Brandon Decker, and Cregar went yard again in the fifth for a 6-2 lead.

Joliet chipped away at the lead with a two-run single by Erik Lis in the bottom of the fifth, and put up another in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Hector Pellot, giving the game its final 6-5 tally.

Tommy Mendoza set down Windy City in order through two, but ended up surrendering five runs through four innings in the effort. Justin Albert, Daniel Carela, and Chase Doremus piggybacked to finish the contest.

The Slammers stranded 14 runners on base, leaving the bases loaded twice, and leaving runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth.

The Slammers hit the road for a six-game trip, starting Sunday in Traverse City. Sunday's game is web-exclusive, and fans can listen live at www.ustream.tv/jolietslammers with Aaron Morse calling the action.
