Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - Tuesday's contest between the Greenville Drive and Asheville Tourists was decided quickly, as the Tourists struck for seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back in a 17-7 victory. With the win, Asheville clinches a win of the three-game series.
A pair of errors in the frame hurt the Drive (21-23), but the Tourists (23-20) still scored five times in the inning on four hits, including a two-run double by Max George.
Roldani Baldwin put Greenville on the board with a solo homer in the second, but the Tourists plated two more runs in the bottom half against Logan Boyd (4-4) thanks to RBI doubles by Brian Mundell and Josh Fuentes.
The Drive received back-to-back homers from Joseph Monge and Luis Alejandro Basabe in the third to cut the score to 7-3, but that was as close as they would get all night.
George doubled home two more runs for Asheville in a three-run fourth, and a three-run homer by Sam Hilliard in the sixth chased Drive reliever Jeffry Fernandez from the game.
Fuentes and Hilliard added two-RBI hits in the seventh, which saw the Tourists tack on four more runs.
A three-run ninth for the Drive was highlighted by an RBI double from Monge, who went 4-5 at the plate, and a two-run homer from Basabe, his second long ball of the night. In addition to those two, Baldwin, Mitchell Gunsolus and Jayce Ray picked up two hits apiece for the Drive.
Jack Wynkoop (5-2) got the win for Asheville despite the Drive touching him for 10 hits and four runs over seven innings.
The teams will quickly turn around and finish the three-game series at 11:05 AM on Wednesday morning in Asheville. The Drive will send right-hander Anderson Espinoza (2-4, 4.54) to the mound, and the Tourists will counter with right-hander Peter Lambert (2-1, 2.45).
