Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists scored season-high 17 runs on Tuesday night in a 17-7 victory over the Greenville Drive. Asheville pounded out 20 hits and scored multiple runs in five different innings to win their fifth straight contest.
Josh Fuentes, the reigning South Atlantic League Player of the Week, led the way with a perfect day at the plate. Fuentes went 5-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and he scored four runs. The Rancho Santa Margarita, California native became the first Tourists player this season to record at least five hits in a single game. Brian Mundell added three hits to the mix, including a pair of doubles, while also scoring four times.
Sam Hilliard continued his hot hitting as the outfielder connected with a three-run Home Run in the sixth and a two-run single in the seventh. Max George cracked a pair of two-run doubles and Hamlet Marte added an RBI double. All nine of the Tourists players in the lineup recorded at least one hit while seven finished with two hits or more.
Jack Wynkoop earned his fifth win of the year with seven strong innings. Wynkoop was staked a big lead, but the left-hander fought hard to limit the Drive to small rallies. Kelvin Franco pitched the final two innings and allowed three runs in the ninth.
Luis Alejandro Basabe led the Drive with a pair of Home Runs; one from each side of the plate. Joseph Monge also had a Home Run for the visitors as part of his four hit day.
The Tourists will look to sweep the Drive with an Education Day special on Wednesday morning. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:05am.
