Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Tanner Banks struck out six batter to match his career-high, but the Lexington Legends limited Kannapolis to one run, beating the Intimidators 3-1 on Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Banks (6-2) suffered his second straight loss despite giving up just three runs on six hits over 6 and 2/3 innings. He walked one and allowed one home run while limiting the Legends to single tallies in the first, second, and fifth innings. It marked the third outing this season and fourth time in his career that Banks fanned a half-dozen batters. Taylore Cherry spun the final 1 and 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless ball for the Intimidators.
Lexington struck first as D.J. Burt doubled to open the home half of the first inning, and Samir Duenez brought him in with a sacrifice-fly for a 1-0 lead. Kannapolis tied the game in the top of the second when Landon Lassiter singled to cash Antonio Rodriguez, but the Legends jumped back in front on Travis Maezes' solo home run (4) with two outs in the bottom of the second for a 2-1 lead.
Legends starting pitcher Julio Pinto left the game with one out in the second inning when Rodriguez lined a pitch off Pinto's right arm. Torey Deshazier took over and kept Kannapolis off the board over during his 3 and 1/3 innings of work to earn the win. Deshazier (1-1) worked around four hits and two walks while striking out three in his emergency outing.
Jake Kalish picked up where Deshazier left off, spinning the final 4 and 1/3 innings while limiting Kannapolis (18-27) to one hit while striking out four.
The Intimidators wrap up this 3-game series and 7-game road trip on Wednesday morning at 10:05 a.m. as LHP Johnathan Frebis (3-2, 4.79 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Lexington's RHP Nolan Watson (1-4, 8.80 ERA) at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The team returns home on Thursday, May 26, to open a seven-game home stand starting with Motorsports Night where the team will be giving away two pairs of tickets to the 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Intimidators upcoming home stand also features Faith & Fireworks Night on Saturday, May 28, with a pre-game Christian concert by Selfless Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and post-game fireworks presented by ServPro of North Cabarrus County & China Grove and Cornerstone Church.
