Asheville Tourists News Release

The Colorado Rockies have promoted left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich to the Asheville Tourists in the South Atlantic League. To make room on the Asheville roster, pitcher Sheng-An Kuo has been sent to the Tri-City Dust Devils in the Northwest League.

Friedrich was the Rockies' first-round draft choice in the June 2008 draft, selected with the 25th overall pick out of Eastern Kentucky University. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound lefty began his professional career at Tri-City, where he posted a 2-1 record with a 3.25 ERA in eight starts. Friedrich allowed 31 hits and eight walks in 36 innings while striking out 50 batters. He is expected to join the Asheville rotation during the upcoming road trip to West Virginia and Hickory.

Kuo has spent most of the 2008 season in the Tourists' rotation. He owns a 9-7 record with a 5.16 ERA in 24 outings with Asheville.

The Tourists' final game of the homestand will be played tonight at McCormick Field, beginning at 7:05 p.m. against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The team returns home on Wednesday, August 27, for a six-game homestand before the South Atlantic League playoffs begin.
