Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
âTOPES TAKE ADVANTAGE OF LATE MISCUE TO WIN OPENER Ryan Jorgensen drove in Matt Padgett with the tying run with two outs in the eighth inning and then scored, along with Chris Aguila, on two New Orleans errors as the Albuquerque Isotopes took the opener of a four-game series with the Zephyrs 8-6. Down 6-5 with two outs and two on in the eighth, Jorgensen, activated from the disabled list this morning, drove a ball to left-field, scoring Padgett. The catcher, John Buck, cut the ball off and tried to get Jorgensen out advancing to second. The throw sailed high to centerfield and then got past the centerfielder, allowing the go ahead runs to score.
New Orleans took a brief lead in the top of the eight, scoring twice off Clint Sodowsky. Buck doubled in Chris Burke to tie the game at five and then scored on a Joe Dillon error for a 6-5 lead. The Zephyrs took the early lead, scoring a run in the first, two more in the third on homers from Phil Hiatt and Rob Ryan, and a run in the fourth on a Buck homer. Albuquerque responded in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on six hits, including a Chris Aguila three-run homer. Sodowsky (3-0) earned the win, with Josias Manzanillo earning his second save.
Albuquerque (31-22) stays ahead of the Iowa Cubs by one half game. The Isotopes and Zephyrs will play game two of four tomorrow afternoon, beginning at 12:05 PM.
