Reliever Pat Mahomes released

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that reliever Pat Mahomes has been released. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 23 players; 11 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders and five outfielders, plus three players (right-hander Seung Song, infielder Henry Mateo and catcher Randy Knorr) on the disabled list.

Mahomes, 33, was 4-4, 4.88 (24.0 IP - 13 ER) with six saves in 20 appearances with the Trappers this season. He leads the club in saves and earned the win in all four of the club's extra-inning victories this season. The Bryan, Texas native signed as a free agent with the Montreal Expos on January 30, 2004 after spending the 2003 season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He was 8-4, 2.67 (64.0 IP - 19 ER) with two saves in 38 appearances (two starts) with the Pirates top farm club in Nashville last season and 0-1, 4.84 (22.1 IP - 12 ER) in nine outings (one start) with Pittsburgh. Mahomes was originally selected in the eighth round of the 1988 draft by the Minnesota Twins and first pitched in the PCL in 1991 with the Portland Beavers. He is a veteran of 308 major league games (63 starts), compiling a 42-39 record, five saves and a 5.47 ERA (709.0 IP - 431 ER) in that time. Mahomes is 89-56 with a 3.17 ERA (1081.2 IP - 381 ER) and 37 saves in his minor league career.

The next Trapper home game will be on Thursday, June 10 when the club will take on the Las Vegas 51s. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
