BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Mar. 29, 2011) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are proud to announce that forward Tony Romano has been named the team's recipient of the 2010-11 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his contributions to the local community during the 2010-11 season.

Romano has had an incredibly proactive role as a representative of the Sound Tigers in the local community and has made various contributions throughout the season. The rookie forward traveled to pediatric wards of local area hospitals during the Sound Tigers Annual Teddy Bear Drive and helped to prepare and serve meals at the Norwalk Emergency Shelter. The Smithtown, N.Y. native also participated on-ice instruction with children at the New Canaan Winter Club and made multiple visits to local area elementary and middle schools.

Romano is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2010-11 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
