Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, ME ¬" Nick Tuzzolino scored his first career American Hockey League goal and David Leggio made 28 saves en route to his third shutout of the season to lead the Portland Pirates to a 3-0 victory over the Providence Bruins in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,872 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Dennis McCauley and T.J. Brennan also found the back of the net for the Pirates their record improved to 44-20-6-2 overall and 24-7-5-1 at home. The win snapped a four-game losing skid at home, and a three-game losing streak overall.
Providence lost its fifth straight game against Portland at the Cumberland County Civic Center this season while dropping to 33-35-3-3.
Portland stormed out of the gates for two goals in the first 5:22 of the game, to give them a quick two-goal advantage. McCauley redirected a shot from Nick Crawford past Providence goaltender Anton Khudobin at the 3:30 mark, and Tuzzolino scored his first career AHL goal less than two minutes later to cap the first period scoring. The pace would cool down over the next two periods, as no changes were made on the scoreboard until Brennan iced the game with an empty-net goal with 55 seconds remaining.
Both teams totaled 28 shots on net as David Leggio improved his record to 22-7-0. Anton Khudobin received the loss in net for Providence as his overall record dropped to 26-15-2.
The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were: 1. Tuzzolino, 2. Leggio and 3. McCauley.
