Mississippi RiverKings News Release
The Mississippi RiverKings duel with the Wichita Thunder tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. It's the first of the teams' final two meetings of the season.
Mississippi is 32-14-3 for 67 points entering tonight's game, while Wichita is 16-30-3 for 35 points. The RiverKings are 4-1-0 against the Thunder this season.
The RiverKings are in first place in the CHL Northeast Division and are second in the Northern Conference playoff ladder. The Thunder are fourth in the CHL Northwest Division.
Mississippi is coming off a three-win weekend in Colorado, defeating the Northern Conference leading-Eagles 5-2 on Friday night, and 5-3 on Saturday. The RiverKings topped Rocky Mountain 5-1 in the team's last appearance in Colorado Sunday afternoon. In the Thunder's last meeting, Wichita lost to Tulsa 6-0.
Goaltender Kevin Beech is nearing RiverKings' record territory, having tied the club record for shutouts in a season at three. One more win will put Beech tied for second in goaltending victories in a season at 27, four behind Larry Sterling's 31 victories in a season and seven behind Sterling's 34 career victories.
With a combination of three points won and/or three points lost by Rapid City, the RiverKings will clinch a Northern Conference playoff spot. The RiverKings are one a three-game winning streak and have won 16 of 22 games (16-3-3) since December 27th.
Jeff Alcombrack is three away from 200 points for his professional hockey career.
