Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 20)-In Texas' twelfth consecutive win at the NYTEX Sports Centre, the Brahmas took a 12 point lead in the Southeast division defeating the Laredo Bucks 5-2 Friday night.
The Brahmas (34-12-4) first shot of the night turned into the first goal as well when Scott Sheppard beat goaltender Sebastien Centomo four minutes in the game. A few minutes later a Brahmas 2-on-1 gave Texas the 2-0 lead as Jason Deitsch fed Sheppard the puck who was able to drill it home for his team leading 28th goal of the season. The first period continued to belong to Deitsch when he shot a puck behind Centomo, in his crease that was eventually kicked in as he skated back into his net. Deitsch was a man on a mission as Texas looked to tie their season high, four goals in a period. With only :23 seconds remaining in the opener, Deitsch went top shelf to give the Brahmas the 4-0 lead going into intermission.
Following an explosive first period, the Texas penalty killing unit proved why they lead the league in shorthanded goals when Jordan Cameron shot the puck past Bucks new goaltender for the evening, Andrew Martin, to give the Brahmas the five goal lead with six minutes remaining in the period. Laredo (28-17-4) ended Texas goaltender Brett Jaeger's bid for a shutout with goals from Ryan Salvis and Josh Bonar, but it was Jaeger who came out on top in the end with his 25th victory of the season.
The Brahmas head to Odessa for a Southern conference showdown with the Jackalopes tomorrow night; a 7:05 PM faceoff start. Texas will return home Sunday for a 3:05 PM matinee against the Oklahoma City Blazers at the NYTEX Sports Centre. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.
