Thunder Comeback Falls Short

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Wichita Thunder dropped a 5-3 decision to the Mississippi Riverkings on Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Riverkings jumped out to a 3-0 lead 3:13 into the game, scoring all three goals in a span of 39 seconds. Bobby Chaumont scored twice for Mississippi. After taking a 4-0 lead, the Thunder got on the scoreboard when Joel Hanson knocked in his 10th goal of the season.

Mississippi went up by four again in the second on a breakaway goal from Garrett Larson. The Thunder again answered back when Chris Shudo connected shorthanded to make it 5-3. Brad Thompson scored for the Thunder late in the third to make it 5-3, but a late penalty called against Wichita erased the Thunder's chance to finish the comeback.

John Daigneau made his Thunder debut, subbing in for Toews after the Riverkings went up 3-0. Daigneau saved 36 of 38, keeping Wichita in the game. Toews took the loss for Wichita. The Thunder was 8 for 8 on the penalty kill, while going 0 for 5 on the power play. The loss was the third straight for the Thunder and its seventh straight at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The Thunder takes on the Riverkings again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Coverage can be heard at 1410AM KGSO as well as www.wichitathunder.com Wichita returns home Wednesday when they host the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 p.m. Hot dogs will cost just $1.00 at the Kansas Coliseum.
