New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[HIDALGO, Tex.]-In a physical battle with playoff intensity, Rio Grande Valley downed the Scorpions 4-2 on Friday night. The victory gave the Killer Bees a split with New Mexico in the season series.

Adam Knight led Neil Trimm into the offensive zone with an outlet pass early in the first period. Trimm made some nice moves on the way to scoring his 14th goal of the season.

Rio Grande Valley tied the game as Even Rankin stepped from the back of the Scorps net for a wraparound goal. The Killer Bees then grabbed the lead as Trevor Wisegerber picked up a rebound goal in his first game back to the ice in nearly two months.

The second period saw physical play take over the first 15 minutes. Adam Knight and Dennis Maxwell had a fabulous tilt that started in the Scorpions zone and ended with the combatants out of gas at center ice.

Late in the period the goal scorers took over. Aaron Lee found himself alone in front of New Mexico's net and scored a shorthanded goal at the 17:48 mark. Tom Maldonado answered for the visitors as he scored for the third time this season with just over a minute remaining in the middle frame.

Rankin added his second goal of the game in the third period to give the Killer Bees an insurance goal. New Mexico fought hard in the final frame but ran into some solid goaltending by Wylie Rogers.

Saturday is the middle game of a busy weekend and the Scorps will visit Corpus Christi. The game starts at 6:45 p.m. Mountain Time. Sunday afternoon the Scorpions will play in Odessa. All games can be seen for free on the CHL Network.

New Mexico returns to the Santa Ana Star Center on Wednesday, February 25th against Amarillo. It is $1 soda night, so bring your friends and drink up.

On Friday March 6th the Scorpions will host the annual Lobo Club night. Special UNM themed jerseys will be worn and auctioned off following the game to benefit the Lobo Club.

Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
