Tom E. Hawk, Chiefs Fans Support American Red Cross

March 24, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs participated, along with the Wheeling Nailers, in the second annual Blood Cup Challenge to benefit the American Red Cross today.

The Blood Cup Challenge is a one-day blood drive challenge between the Chiefs and Nailers to see who can raise more units of blood.

The Red Cross was on hand in the War Memorial Arena lobby from 12 noon until 6 PM taking donations from more than generous Chiefs fans, and members of the Johnstown community. An especially recognizable member of the community, the Chiefs' very own Tom E. Hawk, was in a giving mood, and donated blood as well!

The Nailers won the inaugural Blood Cup Challenge last year, but, pending the results, the Chiefs will hopefully end up on top this year. A Donor Resources Assistant for the Red Cross, Rene Serball put today's event into its proper perspective.

"It's nice for whichever organization attracts more donors and gets more units, but at the end of the day the real winners are the people in need of blood who these drives benefit."

For anyone who could not attend the Blood Cup Challenge and would like to donate blood, visit givelife.org or call 1-800-GIVELIFE for more information on when and where you can donate.

The Chiefs are gearing up for the Kelly Cup Playoffs and return to home ice this Saturday, March 29 for a 7:05 contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones. That game will feature the final Dodge Shootout of 2007-08 where you could be the lucky fan to shoot for a brand new Dodge Vehicle! The Chiefs will host the Trenton Devils at the War Memorial on Sunday, March 30 at 5:05. For that contest, Uni-First Corp. will sponsor a Chiefs T-shirt Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans! Great seats are available, and you can get yours by calling 814-536-5156 or by going to www.johnstownchiefs.com.
