January 2, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, OH) Shane Berschbach scored early for Toledo but the Walleye were shut down from there by the Komets 2-1 in front of a standing room only crowd of 7,802 Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 17-10-1-3 and 6-4-0-1 at home.

The Walleye got off to a strong start as Shane Berschbach (7th) beat Fort Wayne goaltender Pat Nagle with a perfect wrist shot at 3:09 of the first period. Toledo dominated much of the play in the first period out shooting the Komets 16-7.

The second period was a different story as the Komets picked up a goal at 2:47 to even the score at one and then took the lead with a tally at the 15:32 mark. The Komets sent 12 shots at Jeff Lerg in the second period. That's all the scoring that was needed for Nagle who stopped all 10 Walleye shots in the third period and 31 in the game.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 27 of 29 shots and has a record of 12-4-0-2 on the season. The loss snapped Lerg's five game winning streak. Toledo is 1-2-1 vs. Fort Wayne this year. The sellout crowd was the 6th this season for the Walleye in 11 home games. Walleye Transactions: Forward Dane Walters was loaned to the Toledo Walleye today from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Walters has appeared in 14 games this year for the IceHogs, collecting a goal. The native of St. Paul, Minnesota was with the Walleye earlier this season with 2 assists in six games played.
