January 2, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

The Evansville IceMen start off 2016 with two games at the Ford Center against former Central Hockey League foes. The IceMen begin the new year in search of the organization's first ECHL playoff berth after finishing December 6-5-2, Evansville's first winning month since October 2014. The Missouri Mavericks carry the league's best record to the Ford Center Saturday for the second time this season after shutting out the IceMen 3-0 December 2. The Wichita Thunder come to Evansville Sunday for the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The IceMen are six points out of a playoff spot with 43 games to play.

HOW DO YOU DUCO?

Since signing with the IceMen December 16, Mike Duco has points in five out of six games. The Toronto, ON native has four goals and one assist, including goals in each of Evansville's last three games. Duco returned to the ECHL, where he captained the Indy Fuel in 2014-15, after starting the 2015-16 season with the Sheffield Steelers of the Elite Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom.

STREAKING AGAIN

Last time the IceMen played Missouri, the Mavericks were riding a 12-game winning streak. That streak reached 14 before it was finally snapped by the Tulsa Oilers December 13. Missouri went the entire month of November without losing, and have won six straight games since the loss to Tulsa, including a 7-1 win over Wichita on New Years Eve and 4-1 victory against Allen New Years Day. Goaltender Parker Milner, who had the ECHL's third best goals-against average (1.67), was recalled by the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers December 26. But Missouri still has Josh Robinson, who leads the league in that category (1.58) as well as wins (16).

THUNDER HOMECOMING

When Wichita comes to Evansville Sunday, it will mark the first return of three former IceMen. Defenseman Donnie Harris spent the past three seasons in Evansville and his 145 games in an IceMen jersey is second in team history behind Josh Beaulieu (159). Harris has two goals and two assists in 26 games for the Thunder. Brandon Martell played the final 52 games of the 2014-15 season on Evansville's blue line before signing in Wichita this past offseason. He has five goals and one assist this season in 23 games. Forward Peter Sakaris skated in 103 games for the IceMen over the last three seasons and has four goals and nine assists for the Thunder in 20 games. However, Sakaris has been sidelined with an injury since December 11.SATURDAY - UNION NIGHT
