ECHL Adirondack Thunder

Gameday: Adirondack at Reading

January 2, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the third of three consecutive meetings between divisional rivals Adirondack and Reading and the third of 11 meetings during the second half of the season. The two teams split the first two meetings, with Adirondack claiming Thurusday's tilt, 2-1 in a shootout, and Reading winning 5-0 last evening. After tonight's game the Thunder will return to the Civic Center for five home games in a row.

GOALS HARD TO COME BY: The Thunder were shutout for just the second time this season in last evening's 5-0 loss in Reading. The Thunder have failed to score in each of their past two away games and have scored one goal or fewer, excluding shootout tallies, in five of their past six games. The Thunder are 1-4 in those five games and five of the Thunder's eight losses have come in games where Adirondack has scored one goal of fewer.

STRAWBERRY FIELDS: The Thunder will be expected to turn to Drew Fielding in this afternoon's game, when the rookie netminder could make his sixth start of the season. Fielding is 4-1 on the season with a 1.34 goals against average and a .952 save percentage with two shutouts to boot. Fielding lost for the first time in his professional career on Tuesday, but is a perfect 2-0 with just three goals allowed on the road this season.

REIDING ROYALS: The Royals were powered offensively last night by forward Cam Reid, who netted two goals in the Royals' 5-0 win. The tallies for Reid, his eighth and ninth on the season, give him 25 points (9-16-25) in 27 ECHL contests this season. The 24-year old forward is a familiar face for Adirondack, as he skated in 12 games last season with the AHL's Adirondack Flames, where he collected two assists.

FIRST TIME'S A CHARM: In a stat that was not altered by last evening's defeat, when leading after the game's first few minutes, there are few teams in the league that are harder to beat than the Thunder. Adirondack is 12-0-1-1 when leading after the game's first period, bolstered by Thursday's win. The Thunder are one of six teams that are undefeated in regulation when they lead after 20 minutes.
