
Toledo Shut out in Indianapolis to End Series

Indianapolis, IN - The Toledo Mud Hens were shut out in Indianapolis to end the weekend, losing the final game of the series 7-0.
Kent Emanuel started the game for Indianapolis to start the weekend. An error allowed Andre Lipcius to reach first base with one out, but Emanuel was able to get a double play to retire the side.
Bryan Sammons made his Mud hens debut against the Indians. The Indians greeted him early after Sammons walked two batters with one out, then Miguel Andujar slashed a double to score the game's first two runs. After getting the second out, Ryan Vilade slugged a triple over the head of Grant Witherspoon in right field to score another run, making it 3-0. With two outs, Aaron Shackelford roped a single to score Vilade and cap off a four-run first inning for the Indians.
Both teams went down in order, to end the second inning quickly.
The Mud Hens got their first hit in the third inning thanks to a single from Andrew Knapp. Unfortunately for the Hens, Enmanuel got the first out, then recorded his second double play of the game to end the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, Jared Triolo lined a triple to right field to get things going for the Indians. Canaan Smith-Njigba hit a sacrifice fly to score Triolo and grow the Indians' lead to 5-0 after three.
The Mud Hens couldn't get the bats going early on as once again, Sammons was able to retire the side in order. Keeping the Mud Hens scoreless through four.
In the home half of the fourth inning, Grant Koch hit a one-out double to put himself in scoring position for the Indians. Sammons was able to get out of the inning keeping the runner from crossing the plate.
The Mud Hens were able to scrap out another hit in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a single from Andre Lipcius. Once again Emanuel was able to lock down the Hens lineup and strand the runner on base.
Brenan Hanifee entered the game from the bullpen for the bottom of the fifth inning for the Mud Hens. With a runner on second with two outs, Canaan Smith-Njigba hit an RBI single up the middle to make it a 6-0 Indians lead. Back-to-back singles from Ryan Vilade and Aaron Shackelford allowed Smith-Njigba to score and cap off a two-run fifth inning to make it 7-0 Indianapolis.
With one out in the sixth inning, Jermaine Palacios roped a single for the Mud Hens' third hit of the day. But once again Emanuel was able to bear down and retire the next two Mud Hen hitters to keep the Hens off the board.
Braden Bristo pitched the sixth inning for the Mud Hens and worked a one-two-three inning for his first inning of work out of the bullpen for Toledo.
Carmen Mlodzinski came in to pitch the seventh inning for the Indians out of the bullpen. After retiring the first two batters, Jermaine Palacios singled to get himself on base, but Mlodzinski got the next batter out to end the inning.
Miguel Diaz was the Mud Hens pitcher for the bottom of the seventh inning. Diaz worked a clean seventh inning for the Mud hens, retiring all three batters he faced.
Andrew Knapp worked a leadoff walk to put himself on with no outs. Eli Villalobos was the pitcher for the Indians in the eighth inning and after the leadoff walk, Villalobos got a ground ball double play and was able to retire the side without any damage.
Brendan White pitched the bottom of the eighth inning for the Mud Hens and retired the side in order to take the game into the ninth.
With two outs in the ninth inning, Donny Sands roped a single to extend the game but was unable to score as the Mud hens were shut out to end the series 7-0.
